Welcome to AssistApp!

Starting with a new computer program can feel overwhelming. This guide breaks down your first week into simple daily tasks so you can learn at your own pace. By the end of the week, you will feel confident asking for help and using all of AssistApp's features.

Day 1: Get to Know the Toolbar

After installing AssistApp, you will see a small toolbar at the top of your screen. Take a few minutes to explore:

  • Click on each button to see what it does
  • Try adjusting the text size using the settings button
  • Notice how the toolbar stays visible no matter what program you open

Do not worry about breaking anything - just explore! You can always close and reopen AssistApp if needed.

Day 2: Ask Your First Question

Today, practice asking for help. Click the "Ask" button on the toolbar and type a simple question like "How do I check my email?" or "How do I open a document?"

Read through the answer AssistApp provides. Notice how it breaks the task into numbered steps. You do not have to complete the task today - just practice asking questions and reading the responses.

Day 3: Try Voice Commands

If you are comfortable with voice commands, try saying "Computer, help" out loud. Your computer will listen for your question.

Alternatively, hold down the space bar while you speak your question, then release when you are done. This gives you more control over when the computer is listening.

Remember: your voice never leaves your computer. Everything is processed privately on your machine.

Day 4: Use "Show Me" Visual Guidance

Ask AssistApp to help you with a simple task you want to learn. After reading the instructions, click the "Show Me" button.

You will see glowing circles and arrows appear on your screen, pointing to exactly where you need to click. Follow each step at your own pace - the guide waits for you to complete each action before moving to the next one.

Day 5: Try the Accessibility Features

Explore features designed to make computers easier to use:

  • Use the zoom feature to magnify any part of your screen (up to 3x)
  • Try having text read aloud to you
  • Adjust the text size until it is comfortable for your eyes

Day 6: Complete a Real Task

Choose something you actually want to do on your computer today. Maybe you want to:

  • Send an email with a photo attached
  • Print a document
  • Save a picture from the internet
  • Set up a video call

Use AssistApp to guide you through the entire process from start to finish. Take your time and do not rush.

Day 7: Review Your Task History

Click on your task history to see what you have accomplished this week. AssistApp remembers your last 10 tasks, making it easy to repeat common actions.

Try repeating one of the tasks from earlier in the week. Notice how much more confident you feel the second time around!

What's Next?

Congratulations! You have completed your first week with AssistApp. From here, just keep using it whenever you need help with your computer. The more you use it, the more comfortable you will become.

Consider upgrading to the Pro plan for unlimited tasks and access to the Caregiver Dashboard, so family members can help keep you safe online.
